After the Netherlands was liberated in 1945, Juliana returned to assist with post-war relief. She served actively as president of the Dutch Red Cross, working with the National Reconstruction organization. Seeking every possible cure, Juliana fell under the influence of Greet Hofmans, a faith healer whose presence in the palace sparked national controversy. Despite the strain this placed on her marriage and the monarchy's public image, Juliana persevered, continuing her dedicated service to the nation.
Her reign, from 1948 to 1980, coincided with significant constitutional changes for the Netherlands. She signed the papers recognizing Indonesian sovereignty, marking the end of colonial rule. Later, she oversaw the reconstitution of the Netherlands Antilles and Suriname as equal constituent countries within the Kingdom, transforming the structure of the Dutch realm. These were moments of immense national adjustment, which she navigated with steady resolve.
