James Francis Thorpe (May 22 or 28, 1887 – March 28, 1953) was an American athlete and a citizen of the Sac and Fox Nation. He won two Olympic gold medals in 1912 and played professional football, baseball, and basketball. A highly versatile talent, his Olympic medals were controversially stripped and later posthumously restored, cementing his place as one of sports' greatest.
