Edwin Mattison McMillan (September 18, 1907 – September 7, 1991) was an American physicist from Redondo Beach, California. He was the first to synthesize a transuranium element, neptunium, for which he shared the 1951 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. McMillan also co-invented the synchrotron and directed the Berkeley Radiation Laboratory.
