Thomas Arthur Steitz (August 23, 1940 – October 9, 2018) was an American biochemist and Sterling Professor at Yale University. He won the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his pioneering work on the ribosome, revealing its structure and how it functions. His research advanced our understanding of life's molecular machinery and the development of new antibiotics.
