George Gamow (1904 – 1968) was a Soviet and American theoretical physicist and cosmologist. He was an early developer of the Big Bang theory, predicted the cosmic microwave background radiation, and provided a quantum explanation for alpha decay. His popular science books introduced complex concepts to a wide audience.
