William Alison Anders (October 17, 1933 – June 7, 2024) was an American astronaut, engineer, and Air Force officer. As a member of the Apollo 8 crew, he was among the first three humans to orbit the Moon. During the mission, he captured the iconic "Earthrise" photograph, a profound image that shifted humanity's perspective on our planet.
