Anne of Austria

Anne of Austria was born on September 22, 1601, in Valladolid, Spain. She was the eldest daughter of King Philip III of Spain and his wife, Margaret of Austria. Her birth in Valladolid established her Spanish and Habsburg lineage, a heritage that would influence her life and reign.

Anne's destiny as a royal consort began with her marriage to Louis XIII, King of France. This union elevated her to the status of Queen of France in 1615. She also held the title of Queen of Navarre until the annexation of that kingdom into the French crown in 1620.

As Queen of France from 1615 to 1643, Anne navigated the complexities of court life and royal duties. Her most prominent role came after her husband's death, when she became regent for her young son, Louis XIV.
