Alfred Day Hershey (December 4, 1908 – May 22, 1997) was an American chemist and geneticist. He famously co-conducted the Hershey-Chase experiment, proving DNA as the genetic material of life. His work on bacteriophages earned him a Nobel Prize in 1969.
