John Stith Pemberton (July 8, 1831 – August 16, 1888) was an American pharmacist, chemist, and Confederate States Army officer. He is best known as the inventor of Coca-Cola, though he sold the rights to the formula for a small sum before his death. His creation began as an effort to find a cure for his morphine addiction.
