Mohammad Najibullah

Mohammad Najibullah Ahmadzai began his life in Gardez, Afghanistan, on August 6, 1947. His early education and professional path led him to become a physician, specializing as a gynecologist. This medical background provided him with a unique perspective before he transitioned into the complex world of Afghan politics and diplomacy.

Najibullah's career saw him move from the medical profession into public service as a diplomat and politician. He became deeply involved with the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA). Mohammad Najibullah achieved several key political milestones during his life. He was appointed the General Secretary of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) in 1986, a powerful position within the country's ruling structure.
