Louis Braille (January 4, 1809 – January 6, 1852) was a French educator, organist, and inventor. Blinded in childhood, he developed the braille system for reading and writing, based on raised dots, by the age of 15. This revolutionary tactile code opened literacy to visually impaired people worldwide and remains vital today.
