Marcellin Berthelot (October 25, 1827 – March 18, 1907) was a French chemist and politician. He revolutionized chemistry by synthesizing organic compounds from inorganic substances, challenging the vitalist theory. Berthelot also served as France's Minister of Foreign Affairs and was known for his philosophical contributions to science.
