Bobby Sands (March 9, 1954 – May 5, 1981) was a politician, animator, coach builder, and activist from the United Kingdom. As a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army, he led the 1981 hunger strike in Maze Prison and was elected to the UK Parliament while on strike. His death brought international attention to the republican movement.
