Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (August 30, 1797 – February 1, 1851) was an English novelist and writer. She authored the influential Gothic novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, an early example of science fiction. Shelley also championed her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley's, literary works, living a life marked by intellectual pursuit and personal tragedy.
