Franz Uri Boas (July 9, 1858 – December 21, 1942) was a German-American anthropologist and ethnomusicologist. He is known as the "Father of American Anthropology" for his pioneering work in historical particularism and cultural relativism. Boas challenged scientific racism and taught that cultural differences, not biology, shaped human behavior, profoundly influencing his many students.
