Isidore Auguste Marie François Xavier Comte (January 19, 1798 – September 5, 1857) was a French philosopher, mathematician, and sociologist. He formulated the doctrine of positivism and is credited with inventing the term and discipline of sociology. His ideas were fundamental to modern scientific and social thought.
