François-Noël Babeuf (1760 – 1797) was a French revolutionary and journalist of the French Revolutionary period. Known as Gracchus Babeuf, he advocated for the poor, democracy, and the abolition of private property through his newspaper, Le Tribun du Peuple. He was executed for his role in the Conspiracy of the Equals, cementing his legacy as a proto-communist thinker.
